A water main rehabilitation company opened its new headquarters in Elgin Tuesday as part of Gov. Pat Quinn's plan to modernize the state's water infrastructure.
Quinn said he sought out the Toronto-based FER-PAL Construction to bring more innovative water technology companies to Illinois. He hopes the addition of companies like this will drive the state's economy. FER-PAL alone has created 50 new jobs.
“FER-PAL joins a growing list of companies who are choosing Illinois to grow their business,” Quinn said. “The company is also ideally situated to participate in the Clean Water Initiative, which is putting people back to work updating our water systems and infrastructure across Illinois.”
FER-PAL uses technology that eliminates the need to dig trenches to replace aging water mains. This modern method is reportedly more cost-effective than traditional water main replacement.
“We are truly excited to open our newest office in Elgin, Illinois. It is great opportunity for the state, the local community and for FER-PAL,” CEO Shaun McKaigue said.
Quinn believes firms like FER-PAL are attracted to Illinois because of its Clean Water Initiative, which the governor established in 2012. The $1 billion program seeks to improve the state of drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.
