Tonight: A Singing Jeff Daniels

Plus: sketchTest and Jazz Nights

DUMB AND STRUMMER: We're used to seeing Jeff Daniels acting in films as wide-ranging as Terms Of Endearment and The Purple Rose of Cairo, but these days he's stretching even further into the music world. It's not the usual actor turns rock star tale, as Daniels performs funny folk songs to benefit his theatre company in Chelsea, Michigan. Check it out tonight at Evanston's SPACE. 8 p.m., 1245 Chicago Ave., $25-$30

ACTING UP: You might see the next great Chicago comic actor at sketchTest, sort of like amateur night for acting troupes at The Pub Theatre, located on the second floor of Fizz Bar & Grill. Sketch groups of all levels are encouraged to present the material they've been working on in front of a live crowd. 7:30 p.m., 3220 N. Lincoln Ave., NO COVER

MYLES AHEAD: Old Town's 33 Club continues September's Tuesday Jazz Nights featuring musician Myles Hales. Chill out in the see-and-be-seen bar area and enjoy drink specials like the 33 Myles specialty martini and menu items like Oysters on the Half Shell. 8-11 p.m., 1419 N. Wells St, NO COVER
