Tommy Hilfiger to Light the Iconic Walnut Room Christmas Tree

A family tradition since Marshall Field's was around, Chicagoans love their 45-foot Christmas tree in Macy’s Walnut Room. Parents and children alike eagerly anticipate its theme every year.

In 2007, Martha Stewart decorated the icon – this Saturday, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger will be the guest of honor, and possibly create a few of its 4,000 ornaments. At noon on November 8th, Hilfiger will help bring the tree's 15,000 twinkling lights to life. Afterward, he'll sign copies of his book "Iconic America."

There's bound to be a crowd, since the event is free, but take comfort in the fact that the Walnut Room still offers the same chicken pot pie worth waiting for as a kid, despite modernizing their menu.

And since we're feeling festive, here's a coupon to jump-start your holiday shopping after the big event.
