An estimated $20,000 worth of merchandise was stolen overnight from a high-end shoe store in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw two men pry open the door of Jimmy Choo, 65 E. Oak St., around 1:45 a.m. while another man waited in a getaway car.
Police News Affairs confirmed the men got away with multiple items from the store. Sgt. Larry Langford said sledgehammers were used to break display cases.
The whole heist took about four minutes, he said.
"It's unfortunate we got broken into," said Steven Speaks, vice president of Finance for Jimmy Choo NY. "The good thing is no one was hurt."
"It's unbelievable how something like that could happen in a neighborhood like this," said Oak Street shopper Sharon Boeve.
Video of the scene showed shattered glass from the door and scattered debris.
The incident marks the latest robbery or attempted robbery in the upscale neighborhood. Last month, a nearby American Apparel store was burglarized, and on Black Friday, a woman was chocked, knocked down and robbed of her purse on East Erie Street.
