New Loop boutique hotel opens this weekend with rock star style

If you're wondering what the vibe will be like at theWit, the new boutique hotel opening this weekend at the corner of State and Lake streets, this may give you some indication. The property will host an exhibition of rock star artwork for its grand opening, announcing to Chicago that this is no hum-drum hotel.

The exhibit, entitled "Legends: The Artwork of Rock & Roll Royalty," will bring together for the first time works by John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin and Grace Slick to celebrate theWit's christening in Chicago. The event, which will be displayed in the hotel's aptly named Oscar Wilde Ballroom, is open to the public on Friday, May 29 from 5-9PM, Saturday, May 30 from 11AM-7PM and Sunday, May 31 from 11AM-6PM. The "Legends" exhibition will benefit Bright Pink, a national organization that supports young women who are at risk for breast and ovarian cancers, through donations at the door.

Of course, you'll also get a sneak peek at the property itself, which boasts 27 stories, more than 300 guestrooms and suites, two restaurants (with another to open soon), a spa and health club and Screen, a high-definition multimedia theater, which will be showing documentary films and concert footage of the rock 'n' roll legends throughout the opening weekend.

If you're unsure of exactly where to find theWit, just look for the yellow glass bolt of lightning that runs along the length of the building's exterior. Subtle, it ain't.
