In terms of mayhem, Filene's annual Running of the Brides on Friday didn't disappoint. We saw a horde of screaming, sleep-deprived, Spanx-wearing brides-to-be and their friends storm the bridal dress area, wearing matching shirts and headgear that could best be described as, well, interesting (think bunny ears, sorcerer hats, etc.).
There certainly was plenty of shouting—usually along the lines of, "go!" or "here!" or "where are the dressing rooms?" (there were none). But throughout the din we constantly heard bursts of laughter, and also witnessed a few moments of mom-daughter bonding that you typically associate with quieter bridal boutiques. And though we were prepared to catch plenty of injuries on tape, we saw no elbowing, no falling, no tripping...
Bottom line: it appears that this crazed event may actually have been successful, and perhaps more importantly, fun for participants, most of whom have a pretty clear idea of how nuts it will be well before they decide to come.
We chatted with the first bride to buy a dress, Claudia who called the scene "a madhouse," but added that finding her dream dress so quickly was "just amazing." She and her team were done with the whole thing in just 40 minutes.
