The Breakfast Queen Takes On Washington

Breakfast queen Ina Pinkney wants to be your next Illinois senator...sort of. While her namesake restaurant, Ina's, has won the allegiance of pancake and fried chicken lovers, Pinkney wants to mobilize support for a new crusade: packing up for Washington. Pinkney hopes to take over the Senate seat vacated by Roland Burris for the two-month period before the primaries, when his full-time replacement will be chosen. Running as a write-in candidate, she pledges to help push Senator Dick Durbin's bill to give the FDA greater power to regulate food recalls. Surprisingly, this spunky grey-haired brunch maven is no stranger to politics. Pinkney lobbied the New York Board of Health to ban trans fats, which the city did in 2006. "If you trust me to feed you, then you can trust me to lead you," Pinkney told Foodie. Want to be involved in her campaign? We suggest spreading the word at the spots on our Feast List: Brunch Index.
