Teen Refuses to Race with Bib Number 666

Cross country 666

A Kentucky high school cross country runner chose not to run in a regional meet last Saturday after receiving the bib number 666. Codie Thacker had been training since June for her third appearance in the annual race, but did not participate in the meet, which was the qualifying race for the state championship.

"I didn't want to risk my relationship with God and try to take that number," Thacker said, citing her religious beliefs and association of 666 as "the number of the beast" as her reason for stepping down. She and coach Gina Croley reportedly requested a change three times, but were denied.
