Lovers of fine dining and classic films now have some common ground. Gourmands no longer have to suffer through concession stand "cuisine," while movie buffs don't have to watch the clock through dinner. Carlos' Restaurant in Highland Park has announced its 2009 Dinner Film Club schedule, combining fine food and films into one memorable evening.
The restaurant's owners, Carlos and Debbie Nieto, teamed up with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bob Dahlin (who recently moved back to Chicago after 25 years working in the movie biz in Hollywood) to come up with the lineup, which features some little-seen cinematic gems. Screenings take place every second and third Friday of the month, and the schedule currently continues through June.
The series kicks off on Friday, Jan. 16 with a fitting "Tribute to Paul Newman Night." A few of the highlights over the course of the schedule include "Hitchcock's Great Mistake Night" (March 13), "Fred and Ginger Night" (April 10) and "The Star Who Never Was Night" (May 8).
The events feature a three-course dinner of Carlos' contemporary French cuisine from 6:30-8PM. The movie of the evening is shown from 8-10PM, followed by a discussion of the film over dessert and coffee from 10-10:30PM. The dinner, movie and dessert are $60 per person, and reservations are required.
