Study: ‘Tis Better to Give Than to be Taken

Researchers delve into psychological responses to giving and receiving

A University of Chicago researcher gave $10 to 100 people on a Chicago beach as part of a study to find out the psychological response to giving and taking away.

The test ultimately showed pretty much what you might expect. People don't like to have money taken from them, but they are far more generous when they've had winfalls of their own.

Psychologist Boaz Keyser found that people may need to do more than they think to patch things up with those feeling hurt.
