Some Super Weekend Ideas

Roadmap to the Weekend

We know you already have plans for Sunday -- or at least we HOPE you've made you're Super Bowl plans already. But what about the rest of the weekend?

There's plenty of new movies opening up on the big screen:

  • Elizabeth Banks plays a stepmother with an evil motive in "The Uninvited," based on a 2003 Korean horror movie.
  • Harry Connick Jr. and Renee Zellwegger star in the new romantic comedy "New In Town."
  • Liam Neeson plays an ex-spy on the search for his kidnapped daughter in the action thriller, "Taken."

If a smaller production is your thing, check out the Goodman Theatre where Brian Dennehy stars in the Eugene O'Neill drama "Desire Under the Elms."

The world-renowned State Ballet Theatre of Russia performs "Cinderella" at the Harris Theatre through Saturday.

The acclaimed magician Mike Super will take the stage Saturday night at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University in University Park.

On Sunday only, catch the New York Theatre Ballet's presentations of Sleeping Beauty and Carnival of the Animals at the Center for Performing Arts.

It's also the final weekend to see "The Investigation" through Sunday at Navy Pier's Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. And while you're at Navy Pier, check out the largest indoor all sailboat show, Strictly Sail Chicago.

Barrage returns to the Paramount Theatre in Aurora with its all-new show "High Strung."

And there's fun for the whole family with Disney On Ice "Worlds of Fantasy" show at the United Center.

In case you haven't heard, it's the Year of the Ox. Celebrate the Chinese New Year with the amazing Chinese Golden Dragon acrobats as they return to Centre East at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts in Skokie. Chinese New Year parades will be held on Uptown on Saturday and in Chinatown on Sunday.

Almost forgot about the Super Bowl. Here's a few ideas:
