Smooth Sailing Ahead

The Strictly Sail Chicago Boat Show coasts into Navy Pier this weekend

Lake Michigan might be a slick sheet of ice this time of year, but soon we'll be (or our friends with boats will be) setting sail on the open water. In the meantime, chart a course for Navy Pier this weekend for the Strictly Sail Chicago Boat Show, now in its 14th year.

Known as the nation's largest indoor all-sail boat show, Strictly Sail Chicago, which takes place from Thursday, Jan. 29 through Sunday, Feb. 1, features the latest must-haves for sailors, from cutting-edge boat designs to new gear, accessories and hardware from the sailing industry's top suppliers.

Also on deck is an extensive series of seminars led by world adventure cruisers, authors, navigation software experts and sailing equipment specialists. Topics include marine meteorology, equipment maintenance, navigation classes and tips on sailing some of the world's most popular and beautiful locales. Other highlights include a remote control boat regatta on the indoor sailing pond, a sailing simulator, an author's corner and live music throughout the show.

The Strictly Sail Chicago show will be open on Thursday and Friday from 11AM-8PM, on Saturday from 9AM-7PM and on Sunday from 9AM-4PM. Admission is $12-$15 for adults; kids 15 and under are free.
