Smokey, Hot Fire Burns in West Side Building

Crews battled a raging fire in a West Side building early Monday.

The evacuated building, located near a West Side 'L' station, spewed smoke and flames, beginning just before 6 a.m.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from above in a cherry-picker, but as is always the case in Chicago's winter months, cold weather added an extra challenge to the battle.

Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said police were notified fo the blaze at 5:40 a.m.

No injuries were reported as of 6:30 a.m., Kubiak said.

The Cicero station on the CTA's Green Line is located near the burning building, but trains were apparently not affected by the fire.
