It's Wrigley Field like you can't imagine. Except we have time-lapse video, so don't have to wonder just how the hockey rink looks for the Winter Classic.
For a frame of reference, the distance from home plate to the center-ice faceoff dot measures 112 feet. Then it's another 288 feet from there to the center field wall. The penalty box is just to the second base side of the pitcher's mound and the goals are on the first and third base lines.
Workers are busy putting the finishing touches on the transformation of Wrigley Field into a hockey venue. On Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks meet in the NHL's second regular-season outdoor game in the U.S.
The ice is down on the rink, and workers today glided over the surface to get a feel and a look-see on its quality.
Tomorrow, the Blackhawks and Red Wings will practice on the rink, the biggest test yet of a project that's lasted two weeks.
And you can watch the game on Thursday on NBC.
