Thieves in Joliet made off with a Salvation Army red kettle over the weekend that organizers say contained more than $300.
The kettle was in front of the K-Mart store on West Jefferson in the south suburban town. To make up for the loss, the Chicago Sun-Times reports K-Mart and a pair of anonymous donors will contribute as much as $1,200 this weekend.
The Salvation Army had some luck in Naperville and Libertyville in the last week.
The group received $20,000 from a single anonymous donor in four separate checks of $5,000 at two Naperville locations, and on Saturday a package of seven gold Swiss francs was dropped in a red kettle in Libertyville.
"These donations will bring the gift of Christmas joy to so many people in need in our community," Captain Antonio Romero, Corps Officer at the local Salvation Army Center said last week. "We're truly blessed that our community is so generous and giving."
