Teen Busted for Reverse DUI

18-year-old's alcohol level nearly twice the limit

Drinking and driving is bad. Drinking and driving in reverse is worse.

The Daily Heraldreports police caught a Round Lake Park teenager, whose blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, driving in reverse down a residential street late Thursday.

Police Chief George Filenko said four people were in a 1993 Ford with Melissa N. Merill, 18, who was charged with improper backing, driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .157, nearly double the .08 legal limit.

"You've got somebody with a BAC twice the legal limit with a carload of people going in reverse down a street that's not well lit," Filenko told the Daily Herald.
