Deadline Looms For Soldier Field 10 Mile Race

Did you know that on July 19-20, 1968, the first Special Olympics was held right here in Chicago, at Soldier Field? Or that the original name of Soldier Field was the Grant Park Municipal Stadium (until it was changed just a year after opening in 1924, to honor the Chicago Gold Star Mothers who had lost children in World War 1)?

Now you know, and if you follow along to the Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile race Facebook fan page, you'll learn facts like these and more about our beloved football stadium. These bits of trivia are all part of a promotion leading up to the expiration of pre-season pricing for race registration on Jan. 19.

So if you want to run the Soldier Field 10 Mile race on Memorial Day weekend this year (Saturday, May 24, 2014) at a reduced rate, act fast! Registration is $70 now through 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 19, when it increases to $80 through April 1, then $90 through race day.

The 10-mile course runs from just south of Soldier Field all the way down to Hyde Park Blvd. along the lake, then doubles back to end inside the stadium.

Swag includes a Nike technical shirt, finishers medal, and goodie bag, and the whole thing ends in a post-race party. It's a great way to kick off the summer and race season, so register here before Jan. 19 to get the lowest pricing.
