Preventing Cerebral Palsy

Babies born very prematurely have a very high risk of cerebral palsy.  One in ten of those babies have the life-shortening disease.  But now researchers have discovered a simple way to prevent many cases of C.P.

Studies done in three countries are confirming that pregnant women can reduce the risk with injections of magnesium sulphate.  The research studied thousands of women who had a high risk of premature birth.  Side effects include nausea and headaches, but they did not result in any major complications for the pregnancy.
