Cheers to Tuesday

Pops for Champagne unveils new promotions

You lost your job, you had to pay the tax man, and now it's not even safe to find find solace by surfing Craigslist. It can be hard to find an excuse to raise a glass these days, but Pops for Champagne (601 N. State St.) wants you to know that there is always a reason to celebrate.

"Toast on Tuesday" is a new weekly promotion where $1 from each glass of bubbly purchased is donated to the Chicago Jobs Council, which helps advocate jobs for those living in poverty.

"Whether one is celebrating closing a business deal, an engagement, a sunny day, or a recently planned getaway, Toast on Tuesday is designed to celebrate all of the positive things that happen in our daily lives," owner Tom Verhey said.

Why limit the celebration to one day of the week? Visit Pops Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. and receive an approprately chosen 37 percent off of all food items -- with the exception of caviar (caviar wishes folks). It's the perfect time to try out new spring menu items from Executive Chef Andrew Brochu, like Blue Crab Packets with crispy green tomatoes, avocado and dandelion.

If life is about celebrating simple pleasures, then start with Pops' seasonally-inspired menu, weekly jazz in the cellar, and vast Champagne selections.

And you thought there was nothing to celebrate?
