A potential bailout for Detroit’s automakers tops the TV chatter Sunday, as top economic policymakers from both parties make the rounds on the talk shows.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Sen. Carl Levin, both Democrats, will be joined by a native son, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican, on CNN’s “Late Edition,” in addition to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich and publisher Steve Forbes.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Austan Goolsbee, an economic adviser to President-elect Barack Obama, will tackle the bailout issues on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
And on Bloomberg TV, “Political Capital” host Al Hunt interviews United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger.
On NBC's “Meet the Press,” former Democratic Commerce Secretary William Daley and former Republican Secretary of State James Baker will discuss the prospects being floated for their old jobs in the new Obama administration.
Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) will also stop by discuss the Democrats’ decision to keep him as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, despite his vigorous support of Republican John McCain over Democrat Obama in the presidential race.
And host Tom Brokaw convenes a roundtable of CNBC's Erin Burnett, former Wall Street Journal Detroit bureau chief Paul Ingrassia and NBC’s Chuck Todd to discuss the deluge of bad auto and economic news.
Obama senior adviser David Axlerod will sit down on ABC’s “This Week,” along with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.). And host George Stephanopoulos will convene a roundtable, too, with ABC’s George Will, American Prospect's Robert Kuttner, Huffington Post's Arianna Huffington and The New York Times’ David Brooks.
Axlerod will also appear on “Fox News Sunday,” along with House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio).
And on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” the new House Republican whip, Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, will take questions from McClatchy’s David Lightman and The Washington Post’s Paul Kane.
