A Scrooge has shot an arrow through Santa's heart. Well, maybe not his heart but someone in southeastern Illinois' White County is trying to take out one of the town's jolly old St. Nicks.
Sheriff Doug Maier says someone assassinated an inflatable Santa Claus ornament in a front yard in the town of Enfield twice with an arrow that was found nearby.
Maier says investigators think they know who the culprit is, saying he's been known to take target practice in the area with a bow and arrow.
Sheriff's officials are seeking charges of criminal property damage, but so far prosecutors haven't filed a complaint.
In the same county, this time in Herald, someone apparently cut down and dragged off a 4-foot-tall live fir tree from a family's yard. Maier says that case remains unsolved.
