The Gary, Indiana dentist whose body washed up on the Indiana shoreline this week died from drowning, autopsy reports show.
He did not suffer a significant medical event.
Last week Steven Banks, 58, went sailing on Lake Michigan just before heavy storms rolled in. Saturday a group of hikers discovered his body on Kemil Beach in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Porter County Coroner Victoria Deppe said the ruling is pending the return of lab tests. Deppe said that the autopsy showed no signs of any medical event or external cause of Banks' death. The most likely cause of death is hypothermia or drowning.
His sailboat was recovered Thursday near Burns Harbor after it was located by a Coast Guard helicopter about 5 miles off shore.
