Two Dead in SW Side Crash

Two people were killed after a vehicle crashed into a building on the Southwest Side early Monday.

At about 3:18 a.m., a vehicle crashed into a commercial building at 2438 W. 47th St. The vehicle also hit a gas main, which began leaking, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis, who said the leak was small and fixed quickly.

Three people had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue crews. One person was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital and another was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Curtis, who was citing preliminary information.

The third person was hospitalized in an unknown condition at Mount Sinai.
