Northwestern Memorial Recognized Among Nation's “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” for the Ninth Consecutive Year

Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been distinguished as one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” by Working Mother magazine for the ninth consecutive year.  The prestigious award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to supporting the work and life needs of mothers and families through program offerings, flexible work schedules and a company culture that fosters a family-friendly workplace.

One of only eight Illinois companies to win the 2008 award, Northwestern Memorial received recognition for excellence in several areas, including child care service, health insurance for part-time employees and access to on-site lactation rooms for new mothers. The hospital continued to shine in company culture, employee assistance, representation of women throughout the workforce, compensation and flex-time schedule offerings.

“Work-life balance ties into our mission of Patients First and promotes engagement among our employees,” said Dean Manheimer, senior vice president of human resources at Northwestern Memorial.  “We are pleased to offer a variety of programs that help families achieve balance and are honored to be recognized for our efforts.”

The “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” winners are selected based on seven areas that are measured and scored: workplace profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs and company culture. This year, the magazine gave particular weight to family-friendly policies, flexibility, leave policies and benefits for part-time staff.

The 2008 “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” are featured in the October issue of Working Mother magazine.
