South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Antwon Bailey ran for 126 yards and a touchdown to lead the Syracuse Orange to a 24-23 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting in a non-conference bout at Notre Dame Stadium.
Cameron Dantley completed 13-of-25 passes for 122 yards and a score to pace Syracuse (3-8) in the win.
Jimmy Clausen threw for 291 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Notre Dame (6-5). Golden Tate caught both TD passes and finished with 146 yards on seven catches.
The Irish struck first in this one, as Brandon Walker connected on a 34-yard field goal four minutes into the game.
The Orange responded late in the frame with a 48-yard field goal from Patrick Shadle to tie the score at three.
Syracuse took a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter, following a one- yard scoring plunge by Curtis Brinkley.
Walker added a 45-yard kick later in the same quarter to make it a 10-6 game.
Notre Dame put together a quick scoring drive at the end of the half, capped by a 35-yard touchdown pass from Clausen to Tate to send the Irish to the locker room with a 13-10 lead.
Clausen extended Notre Dame's lead to 20-10 late in the third quarter with a 36-yard scoring strike to Tate.
After a turnover, the Irish added three more points on a 23-yard Walker field with 1:34 remaining in the third quarter.
Syracuse found the end zone again early in the final frame with a 26-yard run from Antwon Bailey.
With time winding down, the Orange put together an eight-play, 68-yard drive, punctuated by Dantley's 11-yard touchdown pass to Donte Davis with 42 seconds to play.
The Irish got the ball back and set up Walker for an attempt at a game-winning 53-yard field goal as time expired, but his kick came up short.
