Mmm… Chili!

Super Chili Bowl to determine city's finest bowl o' beans

We're about two-thirds of the way through January, which means there are plenty more opportunities for blizzards, sub-zero temps and just general misery.  Maybe the thing to do is to fatten up even more for the seemingly endless winter.  Perhaps downing comfort food that warms you from the inside out is the thing to do.

Chili to the rescue!  And we're not talking about just any old bowl of meat and beans – we think you deserve the best chili around.  On Saturday, Jan. 31 from noon to 6 p.m. at Mahoney's Pub & Grille, the best chili in Chicago will be crowned champion of the Super Chili Bowl.  Some of the best known chili recipes from places like Mahoney's, Butch McGuire's, Cordis Brothers Supper Club, Kirkwood Bar & Grill and Rock Bottom Brewery to name a few, will compete in an all-day, all-you-can-eat chili fest.  Last year Butch McGuire's won – will they retain their Super Chili Bowl trophy or hand it over to a new winner? Super Bowl XX champion and head coach of the Chicago Slaughter Arena Football team Steve “Mongo” McMichael will join a panel of judges to determine the best chilis in the “regular,” “hot” and “exotic” categories.

Get in on the fun by signing up for a chili eating contest complete with Super Bowl-themed prizes; the contest is at 5 p.m. The Super Chili Bowl is free to all; enjoy $3 22-ounce Coors Light drafts throughout the day.
