Melvin B's Is Back — Sort Of

New restaurant opening in popular Gold Coast space

A beloved Gold Coast restaurant is coming back with a new name and feel.

The 312 Dining Diva reported Thursday that the landmark Gold Coast space at 1114 N. State St. will change its name to Cedar Hotel when it opens in a few weeks.

The building used to house Melvin B's, a popular spot for people watching until it closed its doors in 2007.

The team behind Manor and RiNo are behind the new project, and the team from Wicker Park's The Fifty/50 will upgrade the menu with more upscale bar bites.

"Thank God, because even though Melvin B's and its neighbor, Cactus, were the hot outdoor spots in the summer, the food was pretty bad," according to the Dining Diva.

An exact date for the grand opening has not been released.
