Meet Some of Chicago's Newest Brewers

Smoke Daddy shines the spotlight on Chicago's own Metropolitan Brewing

Chicago has become something of a craft-brewing mecca, what with brewpubs like Moonshine and Piece Brewery & Pizzeria and local microbreweries like Two Brothers, Half Acre and, of course, the grandaddy of them all, Goose Island creating signature suds.

Now you can meet two microbrewers who have been instrumental in building Chicago's craft brew reputation, Doug and Tracy Hurst of Metropolitan Brewing, an operation with its headquarters in the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor. The Hursts will be at a special "Meet the Brewers" tasting at Smoke Daddy, the popular barbecue and beer joint in Wicker Park, on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Starting at 6 p.m., Doug and Tracy will be making the rounds, speaking about their product with local beer aficionados and giving away samples of the hooch. Smoke Daddy will offer pints of Metropolitan Brewing's Dynamo Copper Lager for $3 a pop. The brewery's German-inspired beers are attracting a lot of attention from suds lovers for their artisanal brewing style and balanced, crisp flavors.

Try one for yourself and see.
