Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been named one of the Top Hospitals in the nation by the Leapfrog Group and the Midwest Business Group in their annual survey that recognizes top performers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Northwestern Memorial was one of only 26 hospitals and seven children’s hospitals that made the list this year among the 1,220 surveyed.
Northwestern Memorial was also one of only two Illinois facilities named to the list this year. The Leapfrog Group honors organizations based on their dedication to patient safety and health care quality. Northwestern Memorial was selected for achieving excellence in Leapfrog’s four hospital quality and safety practices. These include: computer physician order entry systems to aid in preventing medication errors; evidence-based hospital referral; ICU staffing by physicians experienced in critical care medicine; and the Leapfrog Safe Practices Score, based on the National Quality Forum-endorsed safe practices that include 13 procedures to reduce preventable medical mistakes, such as bloodstream infections and pneumonia.
