After more than ten years in the business, Lula Cafe has finally picked up a pastry chef - and a notable one as well. Former mk pastry chef, Kate Neumann, whose resume includes recent stints at Alinea and BOKA, joins the restaurant just in time for their upcoming expansion into the space next door (which should make getting a table slightly easier). After fostering the growth of its sister restaurant Nightwood, the addition of Neumann and space expansion marks an interesting new path for the small Logan Square restaurant that has finally started to receive industry recognition over the past few years. Owner Jason Hammel tells Vocalo's Steve Dolinsky, “We just took over the space next door, which will allow us to really expand the pastry kitchen. We felt we needed to just ramp things up, and Kate is a perfect fit.” [Vocalo]
