House Warming

Check out the Chicago chicks who are keeping house music alive and kicking

A historic joining of female house music forces will be coming together at Smart Bar Saturday night for the "House for the Holidays" DJ event. DJ Colette (a Chicago native whose singles have appeared on the "Sex and the City," "Devil Wears Prada" and "House Bunny" soundtracks), DJ Lady D (Colette's partner-in-crime in the female-only SuperJane DJ troupe) and DJ Brenda D (an up-and-coming house music master) will share the turntables at this homecoming party.

If you're not familiar with these powerhouses, here's a primer: Colette, who now splits her time between L.A. and Chicago, combines original vocals set to her own backbeats to a highly original effect. Lady D marries classic house tracks with up-to-the-minute hits and owns D'lectable Music, an A&R, production and remixing facility. She has also appeared in films, TV shows and publications and hosts her own talk and music show on Chicago Public Radio. Brenda D has been mixing in Chicago's top clubs for a decade, combining house music with her love of jazzy vocals. She is also a card-carrying member of the Soul Foundation, a DJ organization throughout North America and Europe. In other words, sisters are doin' it for themselves.

There will be $5 Three Olives vodka cocktails and $4 Sam Adams seasonal beers to celebrate the occasion. Tickets are $12 or $5 before 11PM if you text message Smart Bar.
