Introducing The Rocking Horse, a casual grub and suds joint opening tonight in Logan Square.
From the hipster-nauts behind Ukie Village mainstay High Dive, the similarly low-key Rocking Horse rocks an eclectic retro look, a lovingly stocked indie rock jukebox, and twelve rotating Midwest beers on draught, ranging from Bells, to Two Brothers, to Three Floyds and, of course, Goose Island. The Rocking Horse is also pouring 50 by-the-bottle options ranging from $2.50 domestics to Belgian imports like Chimay -- whose hefty price tag may make you chimay back to Goose Island.
As for the grub, the chef's specialty is ranch fries, but you can also get your cholesterol sticks topped with everything from salsa and queso to chili and cheese. Also available: Chicago's latest obsession -- poutine, that awesomly unhealthy Canadian creation of fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds.
Oh, and once you get past the lengthy fries lineup, peruse the selection of burgers, wraps and taco platters for your booze-soaking-up pleasure. Look soon for The Rocking Horse to add weekend brunch items to its repertoire, but don't expect quiche and champagne -- this will run more along the lines of Snickers-stuffed French toast and PB&J pancakes.
If you can pull yourself away from the table, don't miss the game room in the back of the bar. There's pinball, a pool table and a photo booth for all sorts of good, old-fashioned, after-dark fun.
