A Heart Pumping Workout — For Free

Sweat it out this Saturday

Those of us who didn’t run in the Chicago Marathon may be feeling like a slacker in the workout department (or not). So when we heard about a new class that burns mega calories and fat in a short amount of time, we were all over it in anticipation of getting back in the game.

It’s called Tabata, a workout that offers a combination of cardio and strength intervals, each specifically designed to increase athletic performance and cardio conditioning. The interval training involves 20 seconds of intense exercise moves combined with 10 seconds of rest and recovery, repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes.

After one drill, you feel exhausted -- and totally pumped for the next one. And after 45 minutes (the typical length of a class), you’ve just burned off that cheeseburger you stuffed down the night before.

Equinox Fitness is offering up a complimentary Tabata class at 9 am at Lululemon's Gold Coast location on Saturday.

Now all you have to do is actually make it to class -- which may have an impact on your Friday night activities.
