Happy 74th, Elvis!

The Original Mother's hosts the 9th annual Elvis Fest

It's always the same story every Jan. 2.  Christmas is long gone, while New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are now distant, hung-over memories.  It's still *&$ %!# cold outside, and there's really nothing to look forward to until what -- St. Patty's Day?  Wah, wah wah.  Not so fast, Debbie Downers.  Don't forget the ever important Jan. 8.

What's Jan. 8 you say?  Why, that's Elvis Presley's birthday, natch.  This Jan. 8 would've been the King's 74th, so get your frostbitten self out to The Original Mother's, 26 W. Division St. for the 9th annual ''Elvis Fest.''  At 8 p.m., fans can meet Radio Hall of Famer Dick Biondi from True Oldies 94.7 as he broadcasts live until 11 p.m.  Elvis Tribute Artists will take the stage to impersonate the King, and attendees can participate in an Elvis-look-alike contest for a chance to win a trip to a yet-to-be-determined warm destination.  Heck, Carbondale, Illinois would be warm compared to what we've been experiencing here in the frozen tundra along the Lake.

Enjoy live portrait paintings of Elvis, free peanut butter and banana buffet, a birthday cake and $5 Absolut ''All Shook Up'' cocktails.  Doors open at 7 p.m. There is no entrance fee, but a $5 suggested donation will benefit the New Orleans Musician Clinic.
