Activists Request Help Keeping Rogers Park Trick-or-Treaters Safe After Murders

Activists say that the community is still on edge after two unsolved murders in the area

Community activists in Rogers Park are asking for more security this Halloween season after a pair of unsolved murder cases in the community.

Earlier this year, a 73-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were shot to death execution-style in separate incidents, and police believe that the same masked man committed both murders.

“People are concerned about what’s happening,” activist Raul Montes said. “People are scared.”

Activists are seeking the help of the Guardian Angels group to patrol the streets of Rogers Park during trick-or-treating hours, and some residents with concealed carry permits are also expected to patrol the area.

Montes also asked Chicago police to continue their stepped up patrols in the area, saying that the killer’s choice of wearing a mask will be less conspicuous on Halloween.
