‘Grand Theft Auto” Ads Return Just in Time for Holidays

Ads for violent video game reappear as part of lawsuit settlement

Just in time for the holidays, Grand Theft Auto IV is back on CTA billboards.

Six months ago, the Chicago Transit Authority pulled advertisements for the violent yet popular video game. In response, Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, sued the CTA, claiming the city organization had violated its contractual and constitutional rights.

As part of the lawsuit settlement, the ads will return to Chicago buses for the next six weeks.

"The CTA made the earlier decision to remove the ads from the system following some violence in the city," CTA spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney told the Chicago Tribune. "The CTA felt that, based on the circumstances, it was in the best interest of our customers to remove the ads and further review the circumstances."

This will likely be the last time a violent video game will be advertised on the CTA. Last week, the board voted to ban advertising for video games rated at or above "M," which are only suitable for ages 17 and up according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
