Fran Drescher in Town to Fight “Cancer Schmancer”

The actress, author and women's health advocate will be honored at benefit

Fran Drescher, she of the honking-yet-endearing laugh, is a cancer survivor who founded an organization, dubbed the Cancer Schmancer Foundation, to help women get early detection of the disease. The woman best known as "The Nanny" will be in town on Tuesday, May 5 to promote her cause at a benefit in her honor at Carnivale.

Chaired by Scott and Lonni Glickson, the festive River West restaurant's private Samba Room will host the "Eat, Drink and Be Well" cocktail reception with Drescher in attendance. Guests will be treated to passed hors d'oeuvres created by Carnivale executive chef Mark Mendez, along with the restaurant's signature fun drinks and music. Drescher will address the crowd that evening about her mission to revolutionize women's cancer health care.

The benefit event will go from 5-8PM at Carnivale (702 W. Fulton Market). Ticket options range from $5,000 for a title sponsor opportunity, complete with a V.I.P. dinner for six with Ms. Drescher herself, to a $250 ticket to the cocktail reception only. There are also raffle tickets available for $50.
