At-risk homeowners attending the Fix Your Mortgage event this Saturday will receive free counseling and applications for President Obama’s Making Home Affordable loan modification program, http://makinghomeaffordable.gov/. It is estimated that approximately 30,000 Chicagoland homeowners qualify to have their monthly mortgage payment reduced under this new program.
The Fix Your Mortgage event is sponsored by Attorneys' Title Guaranty Fund (ATG, www.atgf.com, who recruited and will provide 100 volunteer attorneys to council at-risk homeowners), the City of Chicago, Neighborhood Housing Services and The MacArthur Foundation.
Assistance will be offered in English and Spanish.
The event will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Chicago Police Training Academy, 1300 W. Jackson, Chicago.
If homeowners forget their documents or do not qualify for a loan modification, they will be provided with information about what other options are available to avoid foreclosure.
