If you go to the MMA shelf of your local bookstore, you're likely to see plenty of how-to books and plenty of celebrity hero worship books, but not much serious journalism.
In Blood in the Cage: Mixed Martial Arts, Pat Miletich and the Furious Rise of the UFC, author L. Jon Wertheim tries to change that. Wertheim explores the history of MMA through the lens of Miletich, who has been fighting professionally since 1995, and the result is a book that is a fast and insightful read, especially for newer fans who don't know anything about the 1990s version of mixed martial arts.
