MAGICAL MUSICAL SHOWCASE: This set always goes down the fourth week of the month at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Chicago's most renowned music clubs and organizations present their favorite local singer-songwriters in an hour-long set designed for artists to present their origninal work. Tonight Schubas presents Matthew Kerstein. 6 p.m., 220 East Chicago Ave.

MOVE YOUR HIPS: There's a lot of salsa nights in the city, but Alhambra Palace's Tuesday night set is starting to get a rep as one of the best. If your skills aren't quite what they should be, arrive early for the lessons from 8 to 9:30 p.m. After that, it's on -- salsa music and dancing all night long. 1240 W. Randolph, RSVP here

HOW SOON IS NOW? The Smiths are often called the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s, a group whose music gained worldwide popularity only after they broke up. Perhaps you're familiar with their lead singer, Morrissey. Obviously the music lives on, or you wouldn't have sets like tonight's Smith's Night at Danny's Tavern. Danny's can be quite the dance scene on a regular night, so expect to see plenty of movement on the floor. 1951 W Dickens Ave. FREE
