Designer Creates Print of Marathon Route

Chicago has an amazing art culture and a huge running community, so it should come as no surprise that there’s a bit of crossover when the two worlds collide. With the Bank of America Chicago Marathon set to take off on October 13, participants are getting creative as they gear up in all kinds of ways.

Phil Thompson, artist and graphic designer at Cape Horn Illustrations, is running his first Chicago Marathon this year, and has commemorated the occasion with a very special print, as reported on Chicagoist last week.

Thompson sketched an outline of the race route, and superimposed it over panoramic illustrations of the neighborhoods it snakes through. Millennium Park and the Chinatown arch are prominently featured, among other scenic areas of the city.

Make sure you head to Chicagoist to read Thompson’s thoughts on the character of the course that he’s depicted, and that many runners will soon be completing. You can also click through to his website, where the signed print can be purchased for $24.
