DePaul Student Robbed at Gunpoint

A DePaul University student was robbed at gunpoint late Thursday, authorities say, marking at least the fourth incident on the school's Lincoln Park campus in less than three weeks.

The latest crime took place at around 11:45 p.m. in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue, according to Chicago police.

The 19-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk near the school's Commons building when three people, all males believed to be in their late teens, approached him and demanded money, officials said.

One of the suspects displayed a gun, according to police, at which point the offenders took an unknown amount of cash from the victim before fleeing the scene.

The student was not injured in the robbery, authorities said, but the incident prompted DePaul security to send out an alert to students and faculty.

Previous alerts on the school's website show three other strong arm robberies took place in less than three weeks around the campus.

Those incidents, two in the 900 block of West Fullerton Avenue and one in the 700 block of West Belden Avenue, took place on Oct. 16, Oct. 20 and Oct. 24. In those first three cases, no weapons were involved, according to police. It's not clear if any of the four robberies were connected.

No one was taken into custody in relation to Thursday's incident, as Chicago police continue to investigate.
