Dennis Quaid Returns to Big Screen in Football Epic

"The Express" is based on the real life story of the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy. Dennis Quaid stars as the coach of Syracuse University's football team.

He is determined to turn the team into a winning franchise, and is finally given that opportunity when Ernie Davis joins the team.

Despite the racism and segregation of the 1950s, Davis goes on to become the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy.

"The movie is about grace and how to use your life to great effect, and Ernie Davis really embodied that,” says Dennis Quaid during an interview at Mike Ditka's restaurant.

Quaid also said that Davis' journey forever changed the face of professional sports.

"The Express" opens in Chicago on October 10.
