Cubs add speedster Gathright

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs signed speedy outfielder Joey Gathright on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not released.

Gathright played last season with the Kansas City Royals, but they did not offer him a contract for the coming season. He appeared in 105 games for the Royals, hitting .254 with 41 runs scored. He also stole 21 bases in 25 attempts.

The 27-year-old Gathright, who broke into the majors with Tampa Bay in 2004, is career .263 hitter with 78 stolen bases in 408 games for the Rays and Royals.
