It might be an uphill battle for street food, but Chicago is never without a bevy of street fests, many of which include the calorie-laden, coronary-inducing staples of hotdogs, French fries, fried dough, and fried anything. In line with what we hope will be an ongoing trend, this weekend's Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival is eschewing the questionable fried stick food for higher-end finger food from two of Chicago's top chefs in the first pop-up restaurant.
This weekend, make a beeline to Logan Square Kitchen (2333 N. Milwaukee Ave.) to catch chefs Bill Kim (Urban Belly, Belly Shack) and Jason Hammel (Lula Café, Nightwood) partner with Intelligentsia to cook up gourmet festival food. Kim and Hammel will be sharing the LEED Gold-certified kitchen space to create a pop-up, quick-serve restaurant with mad cheap dishes ($2-5). Kim’s theme: summer picnic; Hammel’s: coffee and doughnuts. Much like festival food, the pop-up restaurants will be cash only to keep things efficient so you can mosey on back to the music stages at Milwaukee Fest. The pop-up restaurant will be open at Logan Square Kitchen on July 24 and 25 from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
