One man was injured when he jumped from the second floor of a burning apartment building Wednesday night in Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Twelve other people who lived in the four-story building, on the 700 block of East 76th Street, were displaced by the fire, officials said.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Frank Velez said the fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. and was upgraded to two alarms at about 10:40.
One man, thought to be about 52 years old, jumped from the second floor of the building and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where his condition had stabilized, Velez said.
Two other people refused medical attention.
The fire was put out by 10:45 p.m., Velez said.
The cause remained under investigation as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
