Chefs and the City

Premier dining event attracts city's top chefs

Many of us save up our pennies in order to occasionally sample the creations of some of Chicago's best-known chefs. But what if you were able to mix, mingle and sample food from those chefs all in one night?

The opportunity presents itself Friday at Chefs and the City, July 24th at the Peninsula Hotel (108 E. Superior St.).

Guests will stroll through The Peninsula's Grand Ballroom and adjoining Terrace sampling tastings from 24 of Chicago's culinary stars. We're talking about chefs such as Arun Sampanthavivat (Arun's), Carrie Nahabedian (Naha), Paul Kahan (Blackbird) and Shawn McClain. Wines will be selected by NoMI's Master Sommelier, Fernando Beteta.

"The chefs donate their time and their energy, they personally come and prepare their specialties and they really enjoy interacting with the guests, meeting people and creating personal connections," said the event's chairman, Ryan Ruskin.

The event runs from 7-10 p.m., but as R. Kelly says -- after the party is the after-party -- which will be held at RL Restaurant until midnight (additional $150).

Proceeds from the event benefit Vital Bridges, an organization that provides support services to individuals impacted AIDS in Chicago.

Event tickets are $250 and can be purchased at www.vitalbridges.org or by calling (773) 271-5117.
