Calling All Munchkins

Your kid could be a Munchkin in "The Wizard of Oz" while it's in Chicago

The touring production of "The Wizard of Oz" is coming to the Chicago Theatre, and they're looking for a few good Munchkins. Auditions will be held at the theater at 10AM this Saturday, March 7 for kids from local performing groups to play Munchkins while the show touches down in town.

Here's the fine print: Children must be between the ages of 8 and 13, should not exceed five feet in height or 100 pounds in weight, and prior singing and dancing experience is required. Dance, choir and theater groups with kids that meet those requirements need to pre-register at "The Wizard of Oz" Web site under the "Munchkinland" tab. Twelve kids will have the chance to trot down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, Toto and their cohorts while the production plays the Chicago Theatre from April 30-May 3.

While you're at it, you can score opening night tickets (whether little Johnny gets his big break or not) for 50 percent off by going to the Chicago Theatre Web site and using the promotional code "6TOTO" for the April 30 show.
