A group of Peoria-area high school kids and their chaperones escaped serious injury in a crash with a semi truck Wednesday night.
The charter bus carrying students of Dunlap High School from Chicago collided with a jack-knifed truck on Interstate 39 near the village of Lostant, about 40 miles north of Bloomington. At least two other cars were also involved in the crash.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Paris Ervin said the collision occurred on an icy road, adding that it was too early to speculate on
the cause.
About forty passengers on the bus were taken to three different area hospitals, where all of them were treated and released.
Police said the interstate was closed for a time as the roadway was cleared of debris.
