Bundle Up for the Polar Dash

Participants can run a frosty 15-miler, 10K, 5K or 1,500-meter

Temperatures have dropped drastically, but the organizers of the upcoming Polar Dash say the race is still on. So bundle up with hats, gloves and extra socks and start off this chilly January with a good run.

Described as a "frosty adventure," the Polar Dash is a race for those who love winter, or perhaps those who just want to prove that winter won't get them down. Race organizers plan to hold the event no matter what the weather brings, so dress warm.

Participants in the Polar Dash can choose to run a 15-mile, 10K, 5K or 1,500-meter race. For those runners who become stronger as the temperatures get lower, they can participate in the "Yeti Challenge" and run three of the races offered.

All participants will receive penguin hats and a Polar Dash fleece to keep them warm during the race and hot chocolate and a medal after the finish.

The four races have scattered start times to accommodate the "Yeti" challengers. The 1,500-meter race starts at 8:45 a.m., the 15-miler at 9 a.m., the 10K at 9:45 a.m. and the 5K at 11:45 a.m.

The Polar Dash takes place Jan. 10 along the lakeshore in Grant Park. All races begin near the Museum Campus.
